About the ECS Calgary Student Chapter

The ECS Calgary Student Chapter was established in 2011 at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. It was the second ECS Student Chapter formed in Canada. Currently, the Chapter includes over 60 members.

The Chapter aims to create opportunities for interaction with researchers and scientists from both academia and industry. Additionally, the Chapter actively promotes electrochemistry and its applications to the broader community at various science outreach events.

For 2019-2020, Prof. Viola Birss serves as the faculty advisor, and graduate students Marwa Atwa, Hamideh Eskandari, Zohreh Fallah, and Maedeh Pahlevaninezhad currently serve as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively.

The ECS Calgary Student Chapter was the recipient of the Electrochemical Society Outstanding Student Chapter Award in June 2019 and became the first Canadian chapter to earn this recognition.

PDF Opening at the Birss Group!

The Birss group at the University of Calgary (Dept. of Chemistry) has an immediate opening for a PDF for a one year project in the area of electrochemistry, with a specific focus on binding of biological molecules to SAMs, surface electrochemistry, and use of these modified electrodes in sensor applications. Candidates who do not have a PhD, but who have the appropriate knowledge and background required for this project, will also be considered.
