In June 2015, the ECS Calgary Student Chapter invited Dr. Kunal Karan from the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary to deliver a chalk talk, entitled “Current Understanding of the Catalysts Layers of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells.” Dr. Karan is an Associate Professor in Engineering and also the co-founder and an Associate Director of the Calgary Advanced Energy Storage and Conversion Research – Technologies (CAESR-Tech) group. Dr.Karan started the presentation with an overview of PEM fuel cell technology and then moved on to provide an in-depth description of the current understanding of the catalyst layer. The event had a very good turnout, with over 60 attendees, including both students and faculty members from science and engineering.
